Tactical race decisions.

We knew the race was going to be awkward sailing as we started 48 hours behind the fleet but we flew along the first part until rounding the Tasmania Straits. Then it became a different sort of race.
Wind-holes popped where they shouldn’t have been and currents were trying to push us backwards.
You probably saw us going round in circles and loosing time. We had no wind and were trying to stop the current pulling us backwards. We lost about 5 hours and went no where.
Then there was the choice about seeking wind turn right and heading out to sea for about 180 miles then tack back or turn left closer to the coast line.
You saw the fleet spilt as each yacht made its choice.
And the result for us was more wind holes and lost of time.
We had a couple of debates about the time it would take us to arrive in port and the potential to win points by achieving a better position. We kept reviewing the situation until it was obvious that we were going to arrive late and also not achieved many points. We had a team vote and the engine went on concluding our race.
