Stuck in the Doldrums

It is so hot, hot, 🥵 Slowly, slowly, slowly we have made our way into the doldrums. It is very hot 🥵 40 c +. I am melting as is the rest of the crew. My normal dress of the day is long trousers, long sleeve top, cover for neck, legionnaires hat, sun glasses and life jacket with lashings of sun lotion. Sleeping is very difficult with heat even with a small fan on the bunk. I am grateful not to be hot bunking ie sharing with another as most people are very sweaty 🤭 We passed Papa New Guinea yesterday just a shadow on the horizon. There is a lot of oil in the water where some big ship has dropped its debris. Bad form 😩 In a while we will pass by the Mariana Trench, 11 kilometers deep about 32 thousand feet, that’s as high as plane’s fly! We will not be exploring it in any detail. Short break to watch a pod of passing dolphins, 💕. They are very calm and just glide alongside for a short period. Ropes cri

ss crossing the deck as we fly the spinnaker to try and capture some wind. We are 2 days behold schedule already. I am on ‘heads’today which means cleaning the toilets. Every day we each have a job to complete cleaning, cooking, emptying the bilges, maintaining ship log which is a legal document. In the log is time, date, weather, location,  speed etc which is completed every hour. We are considering shortened the 6 hour day shift and lengthen evening so it is cooler for sleeping. Can’t say this bit is very enjoyable at the moment but we are hoping for the weather to improve so we can get on with the race. Keep watching the race the best is yet to come. Hot and sticky Cath from the Solomon Sea 😎
